Fall Brings a Flurry of New Residents to Palmira

September 12, 2011

Like many part-time residents, Steve and Patti Erickson are making final preparations for their return to Southwest Florida this fall.

For about five months out of the year, they call Palmira Golf & Country Club in Bonita Springs home, and they are anxious to reconnect with old friends and get back out on the greens.

"We rented in the neighborhood one year and fell in love with it," explains Patti Erickson. "So we decided this is where we want to live. There is a nice sense of community and the people are friendly."

But what makes this migration south unlike any other over the past four years? This time they will move into a brand new, custom-built home.

The Erickson's are one of nearly a half-dozen new homeowners in the Avallone neighborhood of Palmira Golf & Country Club.

"We've lived in Palmira since 2008 and liked the quality and design of Harbourside Custom Homes' models," says Erickson. "We needed more space for company and we felt if we were going to build a new home this is who we wanted to build it."

As one of Palmira's premiere builders, Harbourside has completed 65 homes in the community since 2002 and currently has seven new homes under construction.

Earlier this year, when the Erickson's saw the lots in Avallone were starting to sell quickly they decided it was time to build. That inventory continues to dwindle, with only four lots left in Avallone and three in Bellezza, all with lake or golf views of the Egret Course.

Golfers may be motivated by the fact that Palmira is now a fully private club, and according to the club's Membership Director Sue Weber, membership sales over the past year have been very successful and there are plans to reduce the maximum golf membership cap.

"Palmira is one of the best golf course communities in Southwest Florida and they are almost sold out," says Harbourside Custom Homes' President Frank Jenkins. "If you want to build a new home in this community, then you need to act fast."

Homes in Harbourside's single-family neighborhoods in Palmira range from 2,500 to more than 2,900 square feet of air conditioned living space. Home and lot packages start from the high $700's.

Harbourside also builds in the Siena neighborhood where a few remaining estate-size home sites feature sweeping lake, preserve and golf views along the 9th fairway of the Osprey Course and the 9th fairway of the Egret Course.

Harbourside's Hillcrest model, a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath custom designed home with 2,661 square feet under air is open in Palmira Monday thru Saturday from 10 - 5 and on Sunday from 11 - 5. The model is located at 14524 Lieto Lane in Bonita Springs or for more information visit Harbourside's website www.harboursidecustomhomes.com.
